The 2010 municipal election is still nine months away, but five of the six Councillors representing North Oakville have already decided they want to do it again.
Councillors Tom Adams, Max Khan, Jeff Knoll, Marc Grant and Allan Elgar all registered their intents with the Town's Clerks Department on Monday and Tuesday this week. Only Ward 4 Local Councillor Roger Lapworth is yet to announce his decision.
Allan Elgar, the Regional and Local Councillor for Ward 4 and Jeff Knoll, Regional and Local Councillor for Ward 5 both believe their track record will give voters reason to elect them again.
"I think people will vote for me on my record of supporting their views of what they want and fighting for the people," said Elgar. "I've done the best I can to support them."
"I think I'm good at my job," explained Knoll. "I think my track record of accompslihing what I set out to do is very high. I don't toe the line and I ask the hard questions. I make sure there's clear debate about issues of the day. I think the community deserves nothing less."
Oakville Mayor Rob Burton and Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr have also both filed to run again.

2 - Eleven file for October municipal election
Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010 Oakville Beaver
It’s been only 48 hours since nominations could officially be filed for the Oct. 25, 2010 Municipal Election and already 11 hopefuls have entered the contest.
Hoping for another four years to shape municipal policy Mayor Rob Burton was one of the first to file his nomination papers on Monday.
The move came as little surprise as Burton announced his intention to seek re-election Dec. 1, during an Oakville Chamber of Commerce breakfast meeting.
Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr also filed for re-election.
Other incumbents who have already filed their nomination papers included Ward 1 Councillor Ralph Robinson, Ward 1 Town and Regional Councillor Alan Johnston, Ward 4 Town and Regional Councillor Allan Elgar, Ward 5 Councillor Marc Grant, Ward 5 Town and Regional Councillor Jeff Knoll, Ward 6 Councillor Max Khan and Ward 6 Town and Regional Councillor Tom Adams.
Ward 2 Councillor Cathy Duddeck has also filed her nomination papers, however, she will be seeking the Ward 2 Town and Regional Councillor position currently held by Fred Oliver.
Khan could end up running in two elections this year. Last year he was picked as the Oakville Liberal Riding Association’s candidate in the next federal election.
Other contenders who have filed nomination papers to challenge current council representation, include John Hogg, who will be running for Ward 2 town and regional councillor, and John Kay, who will be running for Ward 3 town and regional councillor.
When the Oakville Beaver went to press on Tuesday, no nominations had been filed for the various positions on the Halton District School Board, the Halton District Catholic School Board, the Conseil scolaire de district or the Conseil scolaire de district catholique.
Once they file their nomination papers candidates can begin raising money for their campaigns.
There is still plenty of time for additional candidates to register as nominations for the 2010 Municipal Election do not close until Sept. 10, at 2 p. m. For more information on the election, visit www.oakville.ca/2010election.htm .Back to the top
1 - Mayor Rob Burton registers for re-election
Monday, Jan. 4, 2010 Press Release
Oakville Mayor Rob Burton filed his candidate papers Monday to officially launch his campaign for re-election.
Mayor Burton, an environmental activist and successful businessman who founded YTV before becoming Oakville Mayor in 2006, said he looks forward to running on his successful record.
“Thanks to Council's popular vision and great team work with our town staff, we have delivered on the promises we made in our 2006 campaign platforms to control growth, catch up on facilities, and get costs of growth off taxes,” the Mayor said.
Mayor Burton said he also is proud that Oakville has had no losses at the Ontario Municipal Board on his watch.
And Oakville continues to have one of the lowest rates of property tax in the Greater Toronto Area, thanks in part to the adoption of an innovative value-for-money budgeting system known as "PB2" (Performance Based Program Budgeting), the Mayor said.
