The Town of Oakville’s energy conservation efforts have paid off in a big way with Oakville Hydro awarding the municipality $695,000.

Oakville Mayor Rob Burton accepted the cheque from Oakville Hydro president and CEO Rob Lister during the Monday, Dec. 18 council meeting.

The town received the funds for upgrading its street lights to high-efficiency light emitting diodes (LEDs) through Oakville Hydro’s Electricity Retrofit Program, which pays incentives to eligible participants when replacing existing inefficient equipment with high-efficiency equipment.

“The town’s participation in the Electricity Retrofit Program has helped the town reduce its environmental footprint and energy bill,” said Burton.

“It also reflects council’s ongoing commitment to environmental leadership and sustainability.”

Since March 2016, the town has upgraded around 15,000 of its street lights to high-efficiency LEDs.
