Halton Region hosting Pride events in Oakville

Support and Housing Halton is hosting two events in Oakville in June to support Pride Month.

The first will be a flag-raising ceremony Monday, June 19 at Town Hall, 1225 Trafalgar Rd., with appearances from Oakville Mayor Rob Burton and councillors.

It will take place at 6:15 p.m. outside the municipal government building.

Then, on Thursday, June 22, Support and Housing Halton’s Diversity and Inclusivity Committee will be hosting a Celebrate Pride Day with various activities and a barbecue at its Oakville office, 599 Chartwell Rd.

The free event will run from noon- 3 p.m.

Ward 3 Regional and Town Councilor Dave Gittings will make remarks on behalf of the mayor’s office.

A number of the Region’s partnering agencies will be in attendance including STRIDE, United Way Halton and Hamilton, ADAPT (Halton Alcohol Drug and Gambling Assessment Prevention and Treatment), Canadian Mental Health Association Halton branch (CMHA), Mississauga Halton Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) and a number of others, including staff and clients that Support and Housing Halton help.

Halton police will also be present with three officers from its Community Mobilization Bureau in attendance to support the event.
