Topping the list of highest-paid public sector employees in the region last year is the head of Halton Healthcare.

Denise Hardenne, president and CEO of Halton Healthcare, earned $467,722.27 in salary plus $2,040.26 in taxable benefits in 2016.

Released every year by the Province –2016 numbers made public Friday, March 31 – the Sunshine List gives insight into where tax dollars go by providing the names and salaries of Ontario public sector employees earning more than $100,000 a year.

Halton Healthcare

Other top earners employed by Halton Healthcare are its Chief of Staff Dr. Lorne Martin, who took home $425,400.28 plus $1,929.63 in benefits.

Medical microbiologist Dr. Neil V. Rau earned $298,538.98 plus $1,097.40 in benefits.

Halton Healthcare also has five vice-presidents earning more than $100,000.

This includes: William E. Bailey, who took in $215,361.97, plus $977.25 in benefits;

Vice-President and Chief Information Officer Sundeep Saggar, who earned $174,984.03, plus $793.59 in benefits; Sharon Norris, who took home $175,000.80, plus $793.59 in benefits; Mark Walton, who earned $214,758.93, plus $975.03 in benefits; and, Lilian Scime, who received $245,000.07, plus $1,111.05 in benefits.

Town of Oakville

On the Sunshine List, Mayor Rob Burton earned $171,943.08, which includes the Town ($158,991.42 includes expenses) and regional salaries, plus $9,210.29 in taxable benefits.

Meanwhile, Town staffers on the Sunshine List included, Chief Administrative Officer Ray Green, who took home $248,204 in salary, but no benefits, in 2016.

Commissioner of Community Development Jane Clohecy made $212,552.89 plus $888.20 in benefits, while Commissioner Corporate Services Gord Lalonde earned $212,039.89 and $908.76 in benefits.

Commissioner of Community Services Colleen Bell received $202,858.30, plus benefits totalling $857.84.

Director of Strategy, Policy and Communications Jane Courtemanche earned $178,633.48, plus $709.62 in benefits.

Oakville Public Library Chief Executive Officer Charlotte Meissner earned $144,567.47, plus $802.27 in benefits.

Oakville Fire Chief Brian Durdin took home $165,976.87 and $3,228.89 in benefits.

Deputy Fire Chief George Birtig earned $147,527.40, plus $4,156.44 in benefits.

Deputy Fire Chief Andrew Glynn took home $153,326.92, plus $3,177.16 in benefits.

Halton Region

At Halton Region, Regional Chair Gary Carr was paid $176,458.00 and $1,502.09 in benefits.

Halton’s Commissioner and Medical Officer Hamidah Meghani earned $371,071.39 and benefits totalling $1,104.48.

Commissioner and Medical Officer of Health Matthew Ruf took home $150,634.90, plus $707.21 in benefits.

Commissioner of Social and Community Services Alex Sarchuk received $186,147.56, plus $874.24 in benefits.

Director of Water and Wastewater System Services Kiyoshi Oka earned $183,215.32, plus $858.54 in benefits.

Director of Water and Wastewater Treatment David Andrews took home $175,262.32, plus $826.92 in benefits.

Director of Legal Services Robert Gray earned $175,877.23 plus $828.12 in benefits.

Director of Financial Planning and Budgets Jinsun Kim earned $161,261.17, plus $730.92 in benefits.

Director of Children’s Services Marybeth Jonz took home $160,828.60, plus $2,711.81in benefits.

Director of Employment and Social Services Jodi Guilmette received $140,868.16, plus $662.66 in benefits.

Halton Regional Police Service

Meanwhile, Halton Regional Police Service paid its Police Chief Stephen Tanner $277,968.91 plus $19,010.88 in benefits.

Deputy Chief Bob Percy took home $202,590.05 in salary and $18,616.74 in benefits.

Deputy Chief Carol Crowe earned $196,596.48 plus $13,969.12 in benefits.

Deputy Chief Nishan Jude Duraiappah took home $192,161.76 and benefits totalling $5,414.65.

Inspector, Executive Officer, Chief’s Staff Ivan Paul L'Ortye earned $157,533.08, plus $19,312.34 in benefits.

Sheridan College

Former Sheridan College president and vice-chancellor Dr. Jeff Zabudsky topped the list from the college, earning $458,177.63, plus $2,084.28 in benefits.

Current president and vice-chancellor Mary Preece, who was previously Sheridan’s provost and vice-president of academic, took over from Zabudsky on Nov. 1, 2016 and was recorded as earning $230,302.08, plus $6,241.32 in benefits.
